on days it rains

The bark of mesquites are darker
when wet, it’s much more beautiful
and alive.
Running home to avoid the downpour,
the monsoon drenches all,
even me.
My skin is darker,
I’m not sure if I can say
I’m much more beautiful--
But I am much more alive.
